The Season of Illumination

REGENERATIVE ACT: an individual practice or choice rooted in the collective benefit for all.

When we founded First Crop in December of 2018, we chose to plant its roots in the Land of Enchantment, the state of New Mexico. We are both New Mexico transplants and the beauty of the land and the people brought our families here. For the past two years, we have worked together with our team to bring the vision of First Crop, a new kind of company, to reality. Like any adventure worth taking, our journey has been filled with plenty of twists and turns that make life interesting and fulfilling. We are proud of what our team has accomplished and grateful for the support we have received from so many along the way.

Needless to say, this year has presented more than its share of unique challenges as we launched our first products in the relentless storm of a pandemic and navigated our way through a year of economic and social disruption. At times, finding our path and staying our course has been difficult. However, remaining true to our mission, which is rooted in the goal of wellness for everyone, a strong sense of purpose and an appreciation for the power of regenerative action, we have persevered. Just as the hemp grown by our farmer partners regenerates the soil, our mission guided us throughout the year, made us resilient and even more determined to succeed.

As the winter solstice approaches and the days grow shorter, it is easy to feel like we are living in increasingly dark times. In New Mexico, one of our favorite traditions during the holiday season is illuminating the outline of buildings or lighting a walking path with farolitos or luminarias. A farolito, derived from the Spanish word for lantern or farol, is a simple paper bag and votive lantern that illuminates our dark skies and provides a guiding light for travelers to see and follow.

Yet, it is not a single farolito that illuminates our path that offers safe passage, but rather the light provided by the collective whole. As we acknowledge in our mission statement “healing people and planet, one seed, one soul, one regenerative act at a time”, positive change begins with individual acts whose weight when combined makes a difference. We must all act and support the change we seek. We are grateful for you and invite you to participate in our mission to create positive change, one regenerative act at a time…

Be well,

Jane Pinto, Visionary and Founder
Dave Weir, CEO and Founder

May your regenerative act illuminate this holiday season.
